This cause was the most protracted in duration and unusual in its proceedings of all litigious cases in this court within my experience and it appeared to Mr Justice Snowden and myself most important that the judgment should contain a plain history of the proceedings. This has caused the judgment to run to great length.

I informed you that I thought it would be convenient that the judgment should be printed in pamphlet form which was the more necessary because the newspapers did not print the appendices, necessary to the full understanding of the judgment. You then said that the Government would require six copies. If more be wanted I will send other copies. I enclose six copies.
